"Armando Muniz, 148 1/2, of Los Angeles, had a tough time throughout his fight against Roy Barrientos, 143, of Texas. Although a unanimous decision winner, Muniz was surprised at times in the manner in which the Texan fought back when hurt. Although he had the advantage in weight, Muniz found it difficult to get close to Barrientos who was the taller of the two, by jabbing and moving in the first five rounds. After a short fast flurry in round six, Muniz emerged with a cut over his right eye and finished the round cautiously preventing any further damage. Barely had the sound of the bell died for the start of the 7th when Muniz unloaded a left hook on the chin of Barrientos who dropped in his tracks. The Texan made it to his feet at the count of eight and was groggy but Muniz failed to get another clean shot at his opponent. Feeling the effects of Muniz' body blows, Barrientos ran into further trouble when he was cut over the left eye in the 8th. Muniz was in complete control and handing out some stiff punishment, but Barrientos fought well in the final two rounds.
