"Armando Muniz, 149 1/2, in the best shape of his career, hammered Ernie "Indian Red" Lopez, 150, into submission in the 7th round of a scheduled 10 round main event Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. Muniz rocked Indian Red's head and body throughout the fight, never giving ground, always on the attack. In the 7th round, Muniz' attack, now in high gear, landed a left-right-left combination to Lopez' chin, sending him sprawling to the canvas at the bell. His manager Howie Steindler, between rounds, asked referee John Thomas to stop the fight." -Pasadena Star-News
- Unofficial L.A. Times scorecard (through 7 completed rounds) - 8-0 Muniz

- "I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting there. I did avoid some punches and blocked others, but I have to move my head more." -Armando Muniz
- "I don't want to take anything away from Muniz, I don't want to detract from his fine victory. But we all know he wouldn't have lasted three rounds with the 'Indian Red' we once knew." -Howie Steindler, Lopez' manager
