"Battling Torres fired a rapid left-right combination in the 4th round last night to win by a knockout over Mauro Vasquez who failed to show for the 5th round at the Olympic Auditorium. Before a roaring crowd of 8,100, Torres, of Reynosa, decked his opponent from Mexico City, in the 4th after being on the brink of going down himself in the same round. Torres, bleeding from the mouth, staged a toe-to-toe slugging match with Vasquez and was hurt on several occasions before connecting with his combinations." -United Press International
