"Alfonso Lopez of Panama decked Japanese challenger Shoji Oguma in the 2nd round and kept his WBA flyweight championship by a decision in a 15 round slugfest Wednesday night. The knockdown with a right to the jaw midway through the 2nd round came after Lopez opened the fight by cutting Oguma above the right eye with a powerful right in the 1st round. But the challenger bounced back on the attack in the later rounds. Fighting before 8,000 spectators, Oguma began a comeback attempt in the 5th round by attacking and counter-punching. In the 6th, a long right by the challenger opened a cut over Lopez' left eye. Lopez launched a furious attack at the start of the 14th, but by the end of the round Oguma was trying to attack. Both fighters still had enough energy for all-out punching in the 15th and final round." -Associated Press
