"Dwight Hawkins, Los Angeles, was awarded a 6th round knockout Thursday night over Ignacio (Zurdo) Pina, Mexicali, Mexico, when the doctor declared Pina unable to answer the bell for the 7th round because of a broken nose. Hawkins, who has not been beaten in Los Angeles in seven years, completely dominated the fight at Olympic Auditorium. Opening cuts under the eye and nose of Pina as early as the 3rd round, Hawkins battered those areas throughout the fight. Hawkins' best round was the 5th, when he connected with looping right hooks to the head and then worked on Pina's mid-section to keep the Mexican off-balance." -Pasadena Independent
