"Veteran Dwight Hawkins issued a challenge to the world's top-ranked featherweight contenders today after scoring a one-sided unanimous decision over former Mexican bantamweight champion Manny Barrios Thursday night at the new Anaheim Convention Center. Hawkins battered Barrios with solid body blows in almost every round. There were no knockdowns but Barrios was staggered several times and suffered a deep cut over his left eye in the 7th." -United Press International
