- Date: 1969-04-08
- Location: Valley Music Theatre, Woodland Hills, California, USA
- Referee: George Latka
- Judge: 9-1
"Exploiting his opponent's weaknesses with a withering body attack, Dwight Hawkins clubbed out a unanimous decision over Miguel Herrera of Ecuador in the 10 round main event at Valley Music Theater. Hawkins, of Los Angeles, cut both Herrera's eyes, reddened his body as early as the opening minute of the first stanza and went on to capture nearly every round. The 'Hawk' nearly lost the bout in an action-filled 8th round after dumping the Ecuadorian for a mandatory eight-count with a short left hook to the body. Soon thereafter, Herrera inflicted a one inch cut on Hawkins' left eyelid with an accidental head butt and the fight was momentarily stopped while a hurried patch-up job stemmed the flow of blood. Visibly angered, Hawkins finished fast and went on to win two of the last three rounds." -Van Nuys Valley News and Green Sheet
- Herrera reportedly entered this bout with an 42-5-2 (24) record.
