"At Royal Albert Hall, John Stracey, British welterweight champion, demonstrated his right to a world rating, by beating American Jack Tillman, the bout being stopped in the 4th round with Tillman absorbing punishment and showing no argument at the referee's decision. Tillman had an encouraging 1st round, getting through with a right to the jaw, and an effective right uppercut, which proved his class. Stracey retaliated with a couple of good punches to the body, and continued his assault in the 2nd. It looked like developing into a good scrap between an evenly-matched pair. The British champion's nose bled in the 3rd, but he continued to come forward, and it was noticeable that Tillman winced and held on after taking a couple of body shots. Stracey needed no further encouragement. In the 4th Stracey proceeded with both hands to the body and Tillman looked in extreme trouble. The American tried hard to hold on, but after only 58 seconds of the round referee Harry Gibbs intervened with Tillman on the ropes and defenseless." -Ring Magazine, July 1974 issue
