Moreno drew a sellout of crowd of 6,300 to Hollywood Legion Stadium for his Southern California debut. Estimates at ringside, where that 90% of the crowd was made up of Moreno's Mexican countrymen, with over 2,000 fans being turned away at the door.

Bain began the bout by pressing the action on Moreno, before Moreno returned firepower with hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head, while his Mexican fans yelled their approval at the end of the round. Moreno would stagger Bain twice early with hooks to the head in the 2nd round, and he would land another left hook which floored referee Frankie Van, and bloodied his mouth. Near the end of the 2nd round, a right nearly floored Bain. The two then traded punches after the bell.

Bain came out for the 3rd round with his right eye swollen and bleeding, along with blood coming from his mouth and nose. Moreno would then land a left hook which sent Bain to the canvas. Bain rose at the count of nine, but referee Van stopped the bout, feeling that Bain was in no shape to continue.
