• McConnell put up a game effort, but got dropped several times before Nelson knocked him out in the 12th round. The ring appeared slippery, though, and McConnell was slipping around on the ring floor before the last two knockdowns. McConnell's right eye was swollen shut, and he was out of gas, when Nelson put him on his back for good and finished him. McConnell took enough damage from Nelson to end his career, losing his next two bouts, one by knockout, and then losing a decision to a fighter with a losing record before retiring for good. Good stoppage by referee Joe Cortez.
