- Referee: Leonard Zuniga
"NABF super bantamweight champion Mike Ayala scored a 6th round TKO over former world bantamweight champ Romeo Anaya in the Municipal Auditorium Friday night. Ayala started out stinging Anaya with two good left hooks in the 1st round. Of course, the cunning veteran countered with a hook and combo of his own, but Ayala never lost his poise. Midway in the 4th round Ayala retreated to the ropes and Anaya followed him where Ayala staggered him with two hard left hooks off the ropes. Anaya backed away and Ayala floored him with another left hook which brought a deafening roar from the crowd. Ayala did the same in the 5th and blood gushed from Anaya's left eye. In the 6th Ayala nailed his opponent with a straight right, putting him on the canvas once again where referee Tony Zuniga halted the action at 1:40 of the round." -San Antonio Express News
