"Thailand's Saensak Muangsurin, unleashing powerful lefts, bloodied American Monroe Brooks and scored a TKO in the 15th round to retain his WBC junior welterweight crown Saturday. Brooks took the initiative in the opening rounds but was subdued by the right jabs and left hooks of the champ. Despite a bloodied nose in the 2nd round, Brooks sent Saensak to the canvas with a vicious series of punches in the 3rd. Brooks had another good round in the 9th, when his punches left Saensak's right eye puffed up and reddish. But in the middle rounds, Saensak's power and his longer reach began to tell, and his frequent body punches weakened the American. The end came at 1:55 of the last round when Brooks, rising from the canvas, was battered again by Saensak. Brooks' nose was bleeding and some blood was trickling from his mouth when the fight ended." -Associated Press
