Jerry Quarry 196 lbs beat Mac Foster 210 lbs by TKO at 2:05 in round 6 of 10

  • Quarry broke Foster down with many left hooks to the body in round five. He sent him sprawling in six, and after a right cross to the head sent Foster through the ropes, the referee stopped it without a count. Quarry suffered a puff under his left eye from the third round, and inflicted a right eye cut during the sixth round.

"Jerry Quarry moved himself back into the heavyweight picture Wednesday night by stopping previously unbeaten Mac Foster on a TKO at 2:09 of the 6th round at MSG. The favored Foster, an ex-Marine from Fresno, Calif., who had won all of his 24 previous fights by KO, was dropped through the ropes on the ring apron by a right hand after a wild barrage by Quarry. Referee Johnny LoBianco stopped the bout after the count had reached three. Quarry, ranked 5th by the WBA, teed off on the Marine in the 6th round, driving him around the ring before he put him down." -Associated Press
