"Mike Quarry, the world's 7th-ranked light heavyweight, used a combination of left jabs and hooks to pound out a close but unanimous 10-round decision over Karl Zurheide Tuesday night. Quarry, gunning for a rematch with champion Bob Foster, had to finish strong to earn the decision over the counter-punching Zurheide, who had the edge in the first five rounds. Zurheide, formerly of Fond du Lac, said he thought he won and asked for another shot at Quarry." -Associated Press
Post-fight comments
- "I wanted to pace myself early. I knew I could handle Karl. I don't know why he didn't fight more. He is a good defensive fighter, though, and I wouldn't be against giving him another shot." -Mike Quarry
- "I figured I had control of things and threw the cleaner punches. Sure, he threw a lot but many did not land. And what about the points I scored on the inside? Those were jolting blows." -Karl Zurheide
