"Ralph Charles, British welterweight champion, came in as a substitute to meet Johnny Kramer. Kramer started off well, but a clash of heads in the 3rd saw Kramer emerge with a bad cut on the left eye. Referee Harry Gibbs inspected the damage, and allowed the bout to continue. At the end of the 4th, Gibbs went to Kramer's corner, and as the cut did not yield to treatment, the bout was stopped." -Ring Magazine, July 1970 issue
