"Ernie Lopez, 4th ranked welterweight contender from Arcadia, Calif., scored a decision victory over Peter Cobblah of Ghana in a 10 round main event Wednesday night. There were no knockdowns in the fast-paced bout but Cobblah suffered a slight cut high on the left cheek in the 7th round. Lopez outboxed his shorter opponent throughout the fight but lost the 3rd round when Cobblah connected with lefts and rights to the head." -United Press International

• Although the UPI report did not identify the officials, it did state that the scorecards read 50-41 and 49-42 for Lopez, while the third official scored it a 46-46 draw.
