Clyde Gray 150 lbs beat Art Kettles 148 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Clyde Gray of Toronto scored a unanimous decision over Art Kettles of Ashbury Park, N.J., in a 10 round welterweight fight Monday night. Gray, the Canadian and Commonwealth welterweight champion, hurt his right hand early in the bout and had to rely on his left jab and hook for much of the match. The Nova Scotia born fighter is rated the world's No. 1 welterweight contender by Ring Magazine. Kettles is ranked 8th. Gray said he was confident of victory in the closing rounds but still came out with a flurry of combinations in the final round to make sure of the win. Earlier in the fight he had tried to wear Kettles down with punches to the body, but Kettles countered with several body blows and occasionally scored with hooks and jabs to the head." -Canadian Press

Post fight comment

  • "I was being very cautious in the early rounds. I knew he had a good left hook. I was relying mostly on my left hooks and jabs. If I hadn't hurt my right hand it might have been a different fight." -Clyde Gray
