"In a scheduled 10 round bout, Canadian welterweight champion Clyde Gray of Toronto, 149 1/4, stopped veteran Manny Gonzalez, 151, of Houston, in the 6th round. Although he suffered a cut under his right eye in the 3rd round, Gray bombarded the Texan with flurries of hard lefts and rights to the head throughout most of the fight. In the 5th, referee Doug Powell counted off a mandatory eight count even though Gonzalez had not gone down. Fourteen seconds into the 6th, with Gray again in command, Gonzalez' handlers asked Powell to call a halt." -Associated Press
