"Canadian welterweight champion Clyde Gray had little difficulty Friday night in retaining his championship in disposing of Lonnie States. The champion, who fights out of Toronto, stalked the Windsor, N.S., challenger for the first three rounds before finally unloading in the 4th round He floored states twice before finishing him at 1:39 of the 4th. Just prior to the first knockdown, States staged a brief flurry, which seemed to spur Gray, who moved in and knocked the challenger down with a series of lefts and rights. States took the automatic eight-count on one knee and rose to absorb further punishment before being floored again.
