"Mexico's Zovek Barajas, 146 1/2, after having almost closed the right eye of Gil King, 146 1/2, Los Angeles, scored a 7th round knockout Thursday night and likely won a shot at welterweight contender 'Indian Red' Lopez. A pre-fight 7-5 favorite, Barajas had the former California welterweight champion stumbling around and slumped on the ropes when referee John Thomas stopped the bout with six seconds to go in the round. Barajas, who ignored a cut over his right eye suffered in the 5th round, had King's right eye almost closed in the final round. King was close to going down in every round, but there were no knockdowns recorded by either fighter." -United Press International
