“A superbly-conditioned Gerald Bouchard survived two knockdowns and a standing eight-count and went on to dethrone Canadian middleweight boxing champion Fernand Marcotte in a split decision at the Paul Sauve Sports Centre last night. Marcotte sent Bouchard to the canvas as the bell sounded to end the third round and decked him again in the fourth. In the same round, referee Rosario Baillargeon made Bouchard take an eight-count before letting the fight continue.”
