Denny Moyer 160 lbs lost to Joe DeNucci 165 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"Joe DeNucci, 164 3/4, of Newton Mass., has salvaged his boxing career again and wrecked a proposed Italian trip for Denny Moyer. DeNucci carried the attack to the favored Moyer Monday night and produced a split 10-round decision at Boston Arena. Moyer, 160, from Portland, Ore., had faced tougher opposition including eight former champions and is the ex-junior middleweight titlist himself. After calling it a 'Boston decision,' Moyer - who is aiming for a shot at middleweight king Joey Giardello - said the loss wrecked an Italian trip for him. Had he won he was going to meet world junior middleweight champ Sandro Mazzinghi. DeNucci opened a cut on Moyer's right eyelid in the 4th round and repeatedly reopened it." -Associated Press

Post-fight comments

  • "I didn't think I had any trouble winning the decision. I thought I had him but he's a tough guy to nail. Any time you fight a guy who's looking not to get hurt, it's trouble. I'll be ready to fight again in six weeks. We'll take any good fight we can get. Naturally, I'd like a crack at Joey Giardello." -Joe DeNucci
  • "I thought I beat him. I didn't even think it was close. I fought my usual fight - stick and move. I'd like to fight him again - anywhere but here." -Denny Moyer
