Egon Thomsen beat Hugo Kohler by PTS in round 8 of 8

  • Date: 1966-03-03
  • Location: K.B. Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Danish middleweight Egon Thomsen (20-7-1) whose 8 year career was going nowhere, faced a boxer with a similar fate, Bosnian-Austrian Hugo Kohler (21-12-6). Kohler started brilliantly in the first two rounds, then fell apart and was quickly reduced to a punching bag for Thomsen's left jabs. In the 4th however Kohler showed his legendary punching power and almost knocked out the Dane. Thomsen rose groggy at 8, but Kohler was already too tired to follow up. Thomsen built a solid lead in the rounds 5-7. Both men were dead tired in the 8. Flows of nosebleeds made them red all over. As wrote " Berlingske Tidende ": " A last round the world could very well do without. "

Thomsen got the verdict. Within a year both men retired from boxing. 4000 attended in the KB- Hall of Copenhagen.
