Jack Chase vs. Aaron Wade (2nd meeting)
Jack Chase 160 lbs beat Aaron Wade 163 lbs by TKO at 1:10 in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1944-06-28
- Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
- Referee: Jimmy Evans
"When the bell rang to start the 10th round of a fight between Aaron (Little Tiger) Wade and Jack Chase last night at the Auditorium, Wade had such a strong lead it was obvious Chase needed a knockout to win. One minute and ten seconds later Chase had scored that knockout - a TKO to be correct - and loomed as one of the season's big upsets. It was an exciting scrap featured with the frequency and fervor with which Little Tiger landed his sturdy right hand on Jack's button. In the 10th, Wade took several punches on the jaw before Chase landed one which dropped the recipient mid-ring. Wade staggered to his feet at the count of nine to inform referee Jimmy Evans he couldn't see. Evans called Dr. John Coleman into the ring and the physician confirmed Wade's lament. Evans then hoisted Chase's arm in token of victory." -Oakland Tribune
- The blow affected an optic nerve of Wade's, which temporarily blinded him. The panicking Wade, however, regained his sight in the dressing room.
- Wade substituted for Paul Lewis, who was cut in training.
- The winner of this bout was to meet Paul Lewis the following Wednesday (July 5th), however, Lewis met Eddie Halligan instead. Chase eventually met Lewis on July 19th.
- Bad blood existed between Wade and Chase stemming from a New Year's Eve altercation in which Wade was shot in the shoulder.
