"Earnie Shavers passed his first big heavyweight test Thursday night when the Warren, Ohio slugger stopped Chuck Leslie of Los Angeles in the 10th round. Shavers, 203, managed by Dean Chance of the Detroit Tigers, knocked the 185 pound Leslie down once in the 1st round and closed his left eye. It was the first time Shavers had gone past six rounds and also marked the first time Leslie had been stopped." -United Press International
