"Utah's Rex Layne knocked out favored Bob Dunlap of Oakland at 1:11 of the 9th round of their scheduled 10-round main event at the Civic Auditorium Monday night. Layne, from Lewiston, Utah, weighed 193 1/2 to 176 for Dunlap, and his weight advantage stood him in good stead. Layne was in front from the start, although Dunlap made a wild comeback in the 6th and 7th rounds and had Layne wobbly from blows to the mid-section. However, Layne put Dunlap down twice in the 5th round and once in the 8th before the knockout. Dunlap took nine-counts each time and was saved by the bell at the count of five the second time he was down in the 5th." -Associated Press
