Joe Medrano 126 lbs beat Jorge Valenzuela 126 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Joe Medrano, 126, won a highly unpopular 10-round unanimous decision over Jorge Valenzuela, 124, Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. Medrano, still showing the effects from the beating he received at the hands of Jorge Rodriguez in what was voted the fight of the year, had trouble getting back on track. Valenzuela carried the fight to Medrano with lunging lefts and rights that landed on the chin of the back-pedaling Medrano. Most ringsiders were looking for a better fight out of Medrano and with Valenzuela landing the only telling punches in the bout, were not aware of the lead Medrano had built up with sharp left jabs. By the 8th round, with Medrano's confidence somewhat restored, he came on to easily win the remaining three rounds and improved his record to 16-2." -Pasadena Star-News
