Promoter Leif Hansen drew 4500 to the open air arena Jordal Amfi in Oslo with himself as the main event fighter. He took on the black Surinam welter Theo Baars, fighting on a Dutch license. The bout was daringly billed as " Unofficial qualification fight for the EBU Welter title ".
Hansen started in upright style with left jabs. In the 2nd Baars began to counter effectively.Hansen went for KO with hard rights in rounds 3 and 4. But he began to tire, and a terrific right cross in the 5th felled the Norwegian as a tree. He rolled over the canvas, saved by the bell. He barely survived the 6th round, got a cut and didn't come out for the 7th.
This card became known in Norwegian boxing folklore as "The Black and White- card" ,as two Norwegians faced black fighters. The other was Anders Haga who took on Surinam bantam Sugar Ray. Both Norwegians received a solid beating and became heroes in defeat.
