Tore Magnussen 136 lbs beat Oczan Adiguzel 131 lbs by KO in round 1 of 8

  • Date: 1968-03-08
  • Location: Elverum, Norway
  • Norwegian pro-boxing, always in financial trouble, moved northeast in Norway, to the woods and small town of Elverum. 1,700 people attended the two fight show. Norwegian top contender at lightweight, Tore Magnussen KO'd a novice Turkish/German Oczan Adiguzel after 1:04 of the opening round. After scaring the newcomer with ordinary head blows, Magnussen mercifully knocked him out with an uppercut to the body.

Manager and promoter John W. Wiksen was a little astonished when Adiguzel arrived alone in Oslo the morning of the fight. For years to come Wiksen and his fighter Tore Magnussen maintained in private that Adiguzel actually never had fought before. What does check out is that Adiguzel in January 1968 put in an ad in German paper BoxSport, presenting himself as a fighter with long amateur experience, ready to make it in the pro game. A photo with gloves on was also in the ad. During negotiations with the Norwegian press during a telephone conversation, the Turk presented an amateur record of 45 wins, 33 by KO, 0 losses.

The Aftenposten wrote: The worst boxing event ever in this country. Adiguzel was a phony, a big bluff.
