Tore Magnussen of Norway was a last minute substitute for Olli Maeki of Finland. He arrived in Rome 24 hours before the fight and didn't look prepared for the fast attacks of the Italian champion. Magnussen took standing counts in the 1st and 3rd. The referee stopped the fight.
Attendance: 15 000.
Two years were to elapse before the Italian Petriglia could meet Maeki, a fight which ended in a draw.
