Ray Lunny III 136 lbs beat Baby Cassius 137 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Ray Lunny III, the Redwood City lightweight, out-finessed Baby Cassius of Pasadena last night in the San Francisco Civic Auditorium, pitching a shutout on all cards. While Cassius wasn't Ray's most polished opponent to date, he certainly was the dirtiest. Besides hitting on the break, Cassius laced Lunny's face, used his head for butting and tried to verbally intimidate Lunny. Lunny's style was very methodical up until the 8th round when he came out at the bell and staggered Cassius with a right lead. Ray ended up battering him about the ring for the better part of the stanza. Midway through the 9th, Lunny hit Cassius with a right to the temple and the Pasadena veteran crumpled to the floor. Barely up at the count of 10, Lunny battered him from pillar to post and deposited him outside the ring on the apron. However, that was ruled a slip." -San Mateo Times

  • Unofficial San Mateo Times scorecard - 11-0 Lunny
  • The Times piece referred to the decision as a shutout due to them having Jack Downey's score as 12-0, whereas Boxrec has it 12-1.
  • The co-feature 10-rounder on this card pitted Sugar Ray Seales against Jose Miranda.
  • Attendance - 2,731

Post-fight comment

  • "Whatever they decide on is fine with me. I want to fight again in February and if they get me Ben Villaflor, that will be great." -Ray Lunny III
