Eugene Hart 161 lbs lost to Nate Collins 160 lbs by TKO at 3:00 in round 8 of 10
- Date: 1972-03-07
- Location: Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
- Referee: Pete Tomasco
"Nate Collins of Oakland, scored an upset TKO over Philadelphia's Eugene 'Cyclone' Hart in the Arena here last night. Collins, 161, cut the favorite over the eye in the 1st round and worked on the damaged area until the ringside physician stepped in before the 8th round. Hart, 160, an 8-5 hometown favorite, dropped Collins with a strong left hook early in the 2nd round and almost knocked him to the canvas again in the 3rd. From then on, though, the fight belonged to Collins. The Californian came back very strong in the 4th round, badly damaging the previously unbeaten Hart's face and cutting open both eyelids. Officials ruled that Hart, the WBA's 5th-ranked middleweight, lost the fight in the 8th round by a TKO." -Associated Press
