  • Date: 1972-09-14
  • Location: Metropolitan Sports Center, Bloomington, Minnesota, USA
  • Referee: Wally Holm

"Pat O'Connor risked his 30-0 record Thursday night against No. 2 ranked light heavyweight contender Andy Kendall of Portland, Ore. before a Metropolitan Sports Center crowd of 7,500 that paid a Minnesota record boxing gate of $57,000. Kendall proved to be too much for the Rochester, Minn. boxer who had never been knocked down in his professional career until Kendall's left hook sent him reeling in the 4th round. Referee Wally Holm stopped the bout at 1:07 of the 7th round, even as O'Connor sank glassy-eyed to the canvas to stay after Kendall unloaded a vicious left." -Associated Press

  • "Holy Cow, did I ever get hit. I got hit with the left hook and I couldn't get out of the way after that. That's all it amounted to." -Pat O'Connor
  • "I knew after I gave him a few shots to the body that he would drop that right hand and that I would get my sneaky short hook in there. I don't think the kid is that bad. I think O'Connor underestimated me as being a wade-in type, bangaway fighter. I can box a little bit. I think he thought because I'm 32 that I was washed up." -Andy Kendall
