GLACE BAY, N.S. (CP) - Young Blair Richardson of South Bar, N.S., battered Wilf Greaves for more than seven rounds Saturday night to win the Canadian middleweight boxing championship by a technical knockout before a boisterous crowd of 4,700. Both fighters weighed 159 for the championship match. Richardson used a crisp left jab and follow-up right crosses to down the champion on three occasions, once in the seventh and twice in the eighth. Referee Bobby Beaton halted the one sided affair at 33 seconds of the eighth round, with Greaves prostrate in the centre of the ring. It was the second meeting between the two fighters. In their first encounter July 28, a Maritime record crowd of 6,500 paid a net gate of $16.000 to see Greaves score a knockout in the 10th round of a 12-round championship match. Greaves, a native of Edmonton, has done most of his pro fighting in the United States, using Detroit as home base. He had entered the ring a 7-5 favorite. MONTEAL GAZETTE, October 1, 1962.
