"Middleweight contender Joey Archer of NY passed his first big test against a 'Bomber' Saturday night with a stronger finish that gave him a unanimous 10 round decision over Victor Zalazar of Argentina in their nationally televised fight at MSG. There were no knockdowns, but both men were bleeding at the finish of their excellent bout. Zalazar suffered a cut at the corner of his right eye in the 4th round and a cut on the left brow in the 9th. Also in the 9th, Archer received a two-inch gash across his right brow and it bled so profusely that Dr. Samuel Swetnik examined it but permitted the bout to continue. Joey outpointed his taller opponent by side-to-side defensive maneuvers, out of which he threw repeater jabs, left hooks and straight rights." -United Press International
