"Joey Archer, NY middleweight, used side to side tactics Saturday night to win an avenging, unanimous 10 round decision over Jose Gonzalez of Puerto Rico in MSG. Gonzalez could barely see out of his right eye at the finish and Archer bled persistently from a cut on his left eyelid and brow suffered in the 2nd round. Gonzalez forced the fighting in every round with a persistent hooking attack to the body and head, but it was Archer who landed the harder blows. Joey buckled Jose's knees twice in the 3rd round with rights to the head. He hurt Gonzalez with three left hooks to the jaw in the 4th and slowed Gonzalez to a walk in the 5th with a left hook to the liver." -United Press International
