"In an all out war witnessed by a sellout crowd, Philippine flyweight champion Socrates Batoto, 111 1/2, Manila, pulled a major upset by outpointing Lorenzo "Halimi" Gutierrez, 112, Mexico City, in 10. The rangy Batoto got off to a fast start by firing left and right uppercuts straight up the alley. Those weapons provided a good antidote for Halimi's aggressiveness - until the 3rd, when a ripping left hook dropped Socrates. Batoto arose, only to run into a straight right 30 seconds later, which forced him to take another mandatory eight count.
