Keeny Teran 111 lbs lost to Memo Diez 112 lbs by KO at 1:22 in round 3 of 15
- Date: 1955-05-18
- Location: Legion Stadium, Hollywood, California, USA
- Referee: Frankie Van
"Mexico City's Memo Diez, 111 3/4, won the North American flyweight title last night by belting out Keeny Teran, 111, of Los Angeles in the 3rd round of their scheduled 15-round championship bout. Teran, who claimed the U.S. flyweight title, went down from a short left hook and took the full count in a kneeling position, his head close to the canvas. As soon as referee Frankie Van tolled 10, Teran was up protesting: "Why did you stop the fight?" Van waved him to his corner. Teran, who has had a stormy career, probably reached the end of the road after absorbing considerable punishment to the midsection and appearing to collapse from exhaustion. Diez switched his attack to a southpaw stance in the 2nd round and landed heavily to the stomach. He started the 3rd in a crouch and forced Teran onto the ropes. Teran went to the floor and was counted out at 1:22 of the round." -Associated Press
