Tony Mundine 159 lbs beat Denny Moyer 156 lbs by TKO in round 7 of 10
- Date: 1972-05-31
- Location: Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
- Referee: Vic Patrick
"Commonwealth middleweight champion Tony Mundine of Australia came into world class with a great TKO win over highly-rated American Denny Moyer when their 10 round bout was stopped after the 7th because of Moyer's cut left eye Wednesday night. At the end of the 7th round, Moyer's manager, Sid Flaherty, called over referee Vic Patrick to inspect Moyer's eye. Patrick had no hesitation in crowning Mundine the winner. In all, Mundine dominated the whole fight and surprised his most ardent supporters by outpointing the North American middleweight champion from Portland, Ore. Mundine was the sharpest and the fastest that he has ever been and his lightning left jabs kept Moyer off balance." -United Press International
Post fight comment
- "I am not rushing Mundine, I am going quietly with him and will be looking for a good European boy as his next opponent. We are all terribly elated over Mundine's convincing win and he was going so easily that I was telling him to go for a knockout in the next round when Vic Patrick saved me the trouble." -Ern McQuillan, Mundine's manager
