"Commonwealth light heavyweight champion Tony Mundine clung to his title on Friday night with a points decision over Ernie Barr of the Bahamas. Barr took Mundine to the full 15 rounds but did not look likely to knock the Australian down. Mundine walked through barrages of punches from Barr in the early rounds, wavered a little in the middle stages and came out fast and strong in the final round. Barr seemed unable to make any effective use of his commanding height and reach and spent much of the last few rounds trying to clinch with Mundine. The pace slowed to a near-shuffle in rounds 13 and 14, bringing boos and jeers from the Festival Hall crowd." -The Canberra Times
