Joe Brown vs. Chucho Garcia
Joe Brown 138 lbs lost to Chucho Garcia 141 lbs by TKO at 1:35 in round 9 of 10
- Date: 1968-11-06
- Location: Sam's Sports Palace, Beaumont, Texas, USA
- Referee: Paul Prejean
"Jesse Garcia, the former Reynosa, Mexico battler now fighting out of Port Arthur, made successful his local debut here Wednesday night, stopping former world lightweight champion Joe Brown in 1:35 of the 9th round. Referee Paul Prejean stepped in to stop the bout as a severe cut above Brown's right eye, first opened by a jolting left jab at the beginning of the 7th, reopened causing Brown to lose some vision because of blood pouring into the eye. Brown had his best round in the 6th, when he found Garcia's head with at least a half dozen good uppercuts. It was a heated stanza with both fighters landing good punches. Come the 7th and the cut eye and Brown was all but through for the evening. The cut was reopened in the 8th when Garcia pounded in another hard left hand. It was more of the same in the 9th until Prejean stepped in to stop the fight." -Port Arthur News

Post-fight comment
- "We fought our fight plan. Jesse boxed Joe the first five rounds, then started to put on the pressure. It worked just fine." -Dick Menchacha, Garcia's trainer
