"Thad Spencer easily carved out an unanimous 12 round decision in defense of his state heavyweight championship over game but out-muscled Chuck Leslie in a title bout bloodbath last night at Kezar Pavilion. He came out of it with a slight cut over his left eye after bumping heads with Leslie in the 11th. Leslie wasn't so lucky. It took some 14 stitches to close slices over and under his left eye. Leslie, outweighed by 20 pounds, put up a good fight and had the fans cheering him. But Spencer's strength proved too much to overcome in the late going." -Oakland Tribune
