"World junior lightweight champion Gabriel (Flash) Elorde of the Philippines piled up an early lead in points and hung on for an unpopular majority decision over Vicente Derado of Argentina last night in a dull 15 round bout. The crowd of almost 30,000 booed the tired champion, who was defending his title for the 10th time, when the decision was announced and cheered the game Argentinian, who suffered three cuts around his right eye. Although he never was hurt during the fight, Elorde appeared to run out of steam in the last three rounds as Derado carried the fight to him. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International
