"Flash Elorde, 130, of the Philippines won a majority decision over Auburn Copeland, 129 1/4, Los Angeles, and retained his world junior lightweight crown Saturday night in a slow fight. The American, effective especially in the close exchanges, put up a strong battle. There was such a small difference between the two fighters that the verdict probably was decided by a quick knockdown in the 9th round. After a flurry of punches, Elorde caught the American on the head with a left hand. Copeland fell against the ropes, then sagged to the canvas but bounced up immediately without a count. Elorde maintained a narrow margin until the end of the 15-round bout." -Associated Press
