"Eddie Machen, aspirant for a heavyweight title shot from San Francisco, made ring-wise Joey Maxim of Miami, his 21st consecutive victim tonight with a unanimous 10 round decision in a nationally televised Kentucky Derby Eve fight. Machen turned in his second straight victory over the former light heavyweight champion without too much trouble. Wasting very few blows, the West Coast youngster peppered Maxim with rights and time and again caught him with deadly left hooks. Maxim seemed to tire badly in the closing rounds.
