Tommy Fairhall last night beat Wally Hancock at the Leichhardt Stadium and won tho welterweight championship, Fairhall, who weighted 9,11, was hard pressed in the early rounds, but from the sixth round onwards fought at dazzling speed, and did not give Hancock (10,4) a chance to connect with his left, Only on one occasion did Hancock succeed in landing a solid punch with his left, and though Fairhall staggered, he quickly recovered, and thereafter used both hands with great effect. Hancock was hanging on in the 14th round, and his only chance then of retaining the title was by a knockout, but Fairhall was too good,
