"Referee Mark Conn had nothing to do but score last night when Hammerin' Harold Carter, hustling and bustling, ran over Detroit's Johnny Summerlin in a televised 10-rounder at MSG. Carter, from Linden, N.J., looked very impressive in racking up his unanimous, one-sided decision with his new non-stop punching style. The win evened his score with Summerlin. Last night Carter let fly with both hands and never stopped throwing until the final bell. Summerlin wilted under the relentless pace and almost went to the canvas in the 7th, 8th and 9th rounds. Carter kept the fight at close quarters and they whacked away at each other continuously to the head and body to the delight of the 1,500 fans." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 8-1-1 Carter
