"Middleweight contender Spider Webb won a split decision over Jimmy Beecham in last night's TV 10 rounder at Miami Beach Auditorium. Webb of Chicago set a fast pace throughout, but the low-bobbing Beecham of Miami Beach gave him an unexpectedly hard fight. Webb was effective with left jabs and straight rights and he outfought Beecham several times at close quarters in the corners. But Beecham punished Webb's body in mid-ring and shook him up several times with looping rights to the head. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International
