"Spider Webb, No. 3 ranked middleweight, recovered from a jolting assault to blast a 1st round 1:55 TKO of Bobby Boyd in the Chicago Stadium Wednesday night. The nationally televised bout was as furious as it was brief, with Webb recovering from a whistling Boyd left hook which staggered him in the opening seconds. Just when it seemed Boyd was measuring Webb for the kill, the Spider exploded a rousing two-fisted attack of his own. A series of two powerful rights to the jaw sent Boyd down for a nine-count. He staggered to his feet glassy-eyed. Webb followed with steaming lefts and rights to the head. Again Boyd went almost through the ropes from a cruel left-right combination. Boyd again wobbled to his feet at the count of nine. Referee Frank Sikora signaled for the fighters to resume, took another look at Boyd's glassy eyes and halted the bout." -Associated Press
