"Heavyweight Eddie Machen put his ranking of No. 4 on the line last night, but not for long. His scrap with Irish Pat McMurtry of Tacoma lasted until 2:11 of the 1st round after McMurtry had hit the deck three times. Machen took the title of Northwest heavyweight champ out of the ring at the Pacific International building here along with his 31st win in 33 fights. Machen tagged him with a left hook and a right and McMurtry went down. He got up, and the same thing happened twice more. The fight was sceduled for 12 rounds." -United Press International
